Global work - Crossing timezones

Time is one of those things you just need to keep track of. It gets tougher when you are doing work across multiple timezones (example - setting up resources to perform work across different timezones; you want them all meeting up at the same time).  So, this web site has saved my bacon many times and its a resource i use often.

WIndows 10 Creator Update

My laptop has not received the Windows 10 Creator update yet so I am going to push my luck and download/install via this web site https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/software-download/windows10 Going to play around with it.

Outlook 2007 Crash when downloading new mail

Had a friend who was having issues with Outlook 2007. Every time it tried to download email, it would crash. I tried everything - safe mode for outlook and a bunch of other command line switches for outlook but nothing would work. Eventually, I learned that we had access to a web interface for the same mailbox. I took all of the mail sitting in the mailbox and moved it to the Drafts folder and one by one moved a message back to the inbox and let outlook download it. I quickly learned that 1 of the messages was causing outlook to crash so I narrowed it down to 1 message that had an html attachment made in Word. It was not a virus but some sort of malformed html file that outlook was having a tough time interpreting (aka crashing). I deleted that message and we were good. Interesting little problem but I did mention that he should think about upgrading too.. It is 2017 after all (that software is 10 years old). Chuck

2017 Wireless Shopping

I have many folks that come to me for advice on buying technology products. Wifi routers is just one of those products. Wifi routers have changed SO much over the years in terms of features and the advancements in wifi technology. It's hard to keep up with it all. I basically ask, what is it that you need? Usually I don't hear much in the response other then scrambled noise. So my advice is to come up with a list of things you need - broader wifi coverage might be one, dual bands might be another, guest access, etc. Once you have the list go out and research what's out there at stores, take in the marketing info (some of it with a grain of salt). This gives you an idea of what you will need to pay (as that is also a factor but its usually not on the original list - but it should be). Lastly, I suggest giving the link below a review once you have already taken in some information as this site will give you more info (arming you with even more tools to make the right decision). Best of luck on your purchase.

Blogger simplicity

In blogger, I simply created a new blog and assigned url www.gofixit.com.  I made a few customizations and hit save. I viewed the blog a few times as i was testing and then i noticed... the url was actually www.gofixit.com.  That was great. To confirm, I opened a new tab and typed in the url www.gofixit.com and voila! I made it to the blog.  Fantastic.  I didn't have to do anything extra to associate my blog with my domain. This must be something Google has done between Blogger and Google Domains (which my domain name is currently registered with). Kudos for making it so easy and taking out extra steps involved in setting up a blog.

Welcome

Welcome.  I've moved gofixit.com to Blogger.  I was not satisfied by paying a well known shared hosting provider 11 dollars a month to host my wordpress blog so I am going to give this a try and see what happens.    Thanks for stopping by.
